Ferrari: It could all change come Australia

Fernando Alonso isn’t counting his chickens just yet. After a dominant 1-2 by the Ferrari team in Bahrain, and what looked to be a fairly easy drive for Alonso, he knows it could all change come Australia.

“This is only the first race, but we saw the potential of Mercedes in free practice and the first qualifying period as well.

“We also saw the potential of the McLaren in the race as they were on the podium.

“And we saw the potential of Red Bull as they were quicker than us in qualifying, and maybe a little quicker than us in the race.

“Of course with Felipe, who is in the same car, there will be races one of us will win and some races the other will win.

“It will all come down to each track. In Bahrain, for whatever reason, it went well for us.

“Maybe when we go to Australia for the next race, Mercedes, McLaren or whoever are a little ahead of everybody.”

Felipe Massa echoed the thought’s of his teammate who he managed to outqualify, but come the race, he lost out to Alonso on the second corner.

“Well, I expect that the next race will be very difficult, competitive,” said Massa. “We saw that we maybe have some other very strong teams.

“We had really, really strong Red Bull with two cars, so we maybe have a good car to fight, we have McLaren which can be there and can improve the car, maybe Mercedes, so maybe some surprises. We know that it will be difficult.

“We also need to understand the strategy that we did in this race and in what direction the tyres will be and also try to understand the strategy – where you can gain, where it’s more difficult.

“I think it’s difficult to expect how the next track is going to be; it’s a very different circuit and layout to here but we need to gain experience from this race and try to understand many things for the future.”
