Button has echoed the feelings of many of the drivers by stating that he believes Michael Schumacher will be a main competitor in the upcomiong season.  However, the Brit has also warned the seven-time world champion that no-one will give him an inch.

Speaking to British newspaper, The Mirror, the McLaren driver said, “No one’s going to give him an inch.  It’s great to be racing him on an even basis. We have had good races in the past – but then his Ferrari was one second a lap faster all season.

“He will be a main competitor this year. He’s with a good team, they’ve won the Championship, they know what to do.”

Although Schumi was warned that no-one will be taking it easy around him, Button also had a message for the other drivers, “He will still be the old Schumacher, he hasn’t lost it, he wouldn’t have come back unless he wants it again and his speed hasn’t changed.”

As well as voicing his opinions on Schumacher this week, Button told Germany’s Welt am Sonntag that he’s glad that he has left Mercedes as he feels he wouldn’t have been as motivated as he feels with McLaren.

“I do not think I would have been as motivated with Mercedes,” he said.
