We reported back in January that all living F1 champions would be in attendance at the Bahrain GP, for F1’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

However, it seems two champions won’t be in attendance after failing to sign-up for the event. 2007 champion, Kimi Raikkonen and three-time champion Nelson Piquet.

The grid already boasts four champions in the form of Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and most recently, Jenson Button.

A fifth champion, Jacques Villeneuve could be joining the grid if the FIA allow Stefan GP to race.

Other champions in attendance are: Mika Hakkinen, Damon Hill, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Niki Lauda, Keke Rosberg, Alan Jones, Jody Scheckter, Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Stewart and John Surtees and Sir Jack Brabham, the oldest living world champion.

The late Juan Manuel Fangio will be represented by his nephew.

Martin Whitaker, Bahrain circuit advisor also expects the majority of the championship winning cars to be in attendance.

“We expect the majority of the 20 plus cars to be displayed on track and, where possible, be driven by the original world champion,” he told Gulf Daily News.
