Mark Webber topped the timesheets in the morning and managed to hold onto the lead until the end of day one in Barcelona.
Webber set a 1:21.487 in the early hours of the session, which proved quick enough to stay P1 without the Australian having to improve the time.
Williams Nico Rosberg came in second, however his best was still over nine tenths slower than the Red Bull driver.
Lucas di Grassi had a difficult day, crashing in the morning session putting an end to Virgin’s test. The damage to the rear of the VR-01 was quite severe.
In total there were six red flags, cause by; Fauzy, Alonso, Di Grassi, Webber, Rosberg and Button. Button’s red flag resulted in the testing ending prematurely.
Testing will continue tomorrow.
