Teams vote for F-duct ban in 2011

Formula One teams have taken the decision to ban the F-duct aerodynamic device from next year.

The duct, officially known as the ‘J-switch’ was pioneered by McLaren but many teams thought it contravened the ban on moveable aerodynamic devices which in conjunction with the development costs involved, has led to its ban.

FOTA chairman Martin Whitmarsh confirmed the decision to ban the device despite his own team making a case against the ban. A letter sent to all the teams by McLaren said a decision to ban the device would be the wrong thing to do. This was however rejected.
