Sebastian Vettel says he’s willing to go against Formula 1’s new one design only helmet rule which was introduced for this season in order to help fans identify drivers.
The Ferrari driver has worn more than 80 different helmet designs over the past six years and is therefore one of the driving forces behind the change, although he himself isn’t in favour of the rule.
He admits he was planning to reduce the amount of helmet changes this season and would now be willing to break the rule if the penalty is a financial one.
“It seems in these difficult times, it [silly rules] are the only thing that people can agree on,” he said on Saturday in the paddock.
“The plan was to calm down a little bit,” he added. “I don’t know what is the penalty. If it is a little fine with money for charity, then I am happy to keep changing my helmet.”
At present the German is sporting an almost all-white helmet with the colours of the German flag running from front to back.
