Pastor Maldonado put Lotus back on top on Saturday following his table-topping time on the opening day of the Barcelona test.

The Venezuelan used the super-soft tyre to lap the Circuit de Catalunya in 1:24.348, beating Max Verstappen’s morning best by three-tenths.

Lewis Hamilton put Mercedes third, albeit almost two-seconds down on Maldonado’s best, whilst Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson was fourth quickest.

Sebastian Vettel struggled during the morning with a spin into the gravel. His afternoon went smoother though as he completed 105 laps at the wheel of the SF15-T.

Williams chose to alternate drivers during the morning and afternoon. Felipe Massa managed 55 laps before handing the car over to Valtteri Bottas who completed another 49.

Jenson Button was slowest for McLaren as further problems struck the Woking team. A replacement seal proved faulty, curbing his running to just 24 laps.
