Ron Dennis says a new relaxed attitude has allowed him to work with Fernando Alonso again, following their famous falling out in 2007.
A reunion was never thought possible after Alonso left the team after just one season when he and then team-mate Lewis Hamilton failed to get along.
Alonso also played a role in uncovering the ‘spygate’ drama which led to a $100 million fine for the Woking outfit.
That’s now in the past according to Dennis: “Everyone has moved on and certainly I am mellower,” he said. “I think Fernando is more mature.”
Dennis also revealed that Alonso hasn’t made any demands of favouritism – as he did in 2007 with Hamilton – and has in fact asked for equality alongside Jenson Button.
“I can promise you one thing with Fernando – he never even asked [for priority status]. In fact the opposite. Total opposite,” said Dennis.
“He said ‘equality, I accept equality’. He has never asked for a single thing to be inserted in the contract.”
That includes performance clauses as Dennis earlier revealed, amid reports Alonso plans to jump ship to Mercedes at the end of the year if Hamilton fails to renew his contract.
