Manor GP’s last minute plans to make the grid in Australia have been dealt a major blow which will likely see the team unable to compete altogether.
Earlier this week it was revealed that a group of investors had planned to rescue the team and had already paid the FIA’s entry fee to compete.
However during a Strategy Group meeting in Paris on Thursday aimed at discussing the sport’s future, the teams also voted on whether Manor should be able to use their 2014 chassis this year.
It’s believed a number of teams rejected the proposal, despite an earlier indication last year that they would support the idea if it meant the survival of a team.
Therefore, with just weeks until the opening race in Melbourne, it’s unlikely the team will be able to design, manufacture and crash test a new nose which meets the 2015 technical regulations.
Force India and Sauber are believed to be amongst those that have rejected the use of an older car, with the likely reason being that they would lose out on a share of the commercial rights income with it having to be split ten ways instead of just nine.
