Epsilon Euskadi, the favourites to secure the 13th grid slot in 2011, are focusing on proving their ability, financially, to compete for more than just one season.
Epsilon owner Joan Villadelprat was meant to meet with FIA president Jean Todt earlier this week, however the meeting was cancelled due to high winds leading to the grounding of Todt’s plane.
The meeting is expected to go ahead at a later date where Villadelprat will move to ensure the FIA that his outfit has the financial ability to compete in the long-term.
He admitted that they haven’t yet got the finances beyond 2011, but the team was working hard to secure them.
“We are working to find the necessary finances. We have the required budget for 2011 but not thereafter. However, it takes at least four seasons for a new team to be competitive,” the Spaniard told Auto Hebdo.
“However, I intend to prove to the FIA that we have a strong economic foundation that would allow us to continue in F1 for many consecutive years.”
