Pirelli has officially confirmed it’s intent to supply Formula One with tyres for the 2011 season and beyond as Bridgestone is set to exit the sport after this season.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Italian manufacturer announced it will present it’s bid to the FIA and FOM at the Spanish GP.
“Pirelli communicates its decision to present a technical and commercial offer for supply of tyres to all the teams in the Formula 1 world championship,” said Pirelli in a statement.
“The company plans to present the bid to FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) and FOA (Formula One Administration Limited) by 9 May, the date of the next Formula 1 Grand Prix to be held in Spain.”
As we reported earlier, Sam Michael told Reuters that a decision will be made between Michelin and Cooper Avon, with no mention of Pirelli, however it now seems FOTA will need to review that decision.
“The conversations really, at this point, are between Michelin and Avon,” said Michael. “So that’s what’s being debated at the moment.”
