Nico Rosberg has hailed his second place in Canada “a really good result” after he encountered troubles half way through the race.
The German had to nurse his car to the checkered flag after he and team-mate Lewis Hamilton were struck by “high-voltage control electronics failure” which essentially left them racing with 160bhp less than usual.
Hamilton was forced to retire with subsequent brake failure, but Rosberg held off a charging Sergio Perez, but couldn’t quite keep race winner Daniel Ricciardo behind as the Australian siezed his opportunity with just two laps to go.
“I was able to hold off the pack behind me until two laps until the end so it’s still a really good result.
“I was trying to hold on, doing qualifying laps all the time, but it didn’t work out against Daniel.”
Rosberg has urged his team to continue pushing, with the reliability issue – his first this year – proving the W05 isn’t perfect yet.
“We need to keep pushing,” he said. “We need to make sure that we are bulletproof.”
