Marussia can score again this year – Booth

Marussia can repeat their Monaco Grand Prix performance this year according to team principal John Booth who is confident more points will come in 2014.

The team ended a four-year points drought after Jules Bianchi managed to finish ninth in Monaco, moving the team up to ninth in the championship ahead of Sauber and Caterham.

Booth reckons they can continue to make steps forward and, at specific circuits, points could again be on the cards.

“We think that we can do it now,” he told Crash.net. “We think that we can perform at this level – maybe not at places like Canada, Monza and Spa might be quite difficult for us – but in Austria, Silverstone, Hungary we think we can repeat this level of performance there.”

Should Marussia remain ninth in the championship, they will receive a £20 million ($33m) financial boost, but the impact on the team’s morale will be the biggest benefit.

“There’s financial potential, but it gives us belief in what we’re doing,” he added.

He explained that the team bought a minor upgrade to the Monaco GP which cost less than £5,000 ($8,300), with much of the performance boost coming from understanding the car better.

“We brought some very small parts to the car in Barcelona, we started unlocking that potential in the test at Barcelona so we came here with a lot of hope.”
