Rosberg wins in Monaco as Marussia score points

Nico Rosberg took victory in the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix, leading from start to finish with an eventual nine second lead over team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The Briton had remained in touch with Rosberg for the majority of the race, with the gap rarely exceeding a second, but Hamilton reported of vision problems in his left eye which caused him to slow.

That allowed Daniel Ricciardo to close in at rapid speed, but the Red Bull couldn’t find a way past the Mercedes and they finished second and third.

However the biggest story of the race will be Jules Bianchi’s ninth place – although he finished eighth, a five-second penalty was applied after he incorrectly served a stop/go during the safety car period – giving Marussia their first ever points in F1.

The Frenchman finished behind Fernando Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg, Jenson Button – who is under investigation for contact with Sergio Perez on lap one – Felipe Massa and Romain Grosjean.

Kevin Magnussen took the final point for McLaren, just pipping Caterham’s Marcus Ericsson who finished 11th.

Kimi Raikkonen looked set for points after jumping up to third at the start, but during a safety car he made contact with a backmarker and a slow puncture ensued, which forced him to stop again. A later incident involving himself and Magnussen also knocked him further back.

Kamui Kobayashi was 13th with Max Chilton 14th – a good day for the backmarker teams, but that was largely due to the eight retirements which included Pastor Maldonado who failed to start the race.
