Perez expects more drama in Monaco than usual

Sergio Perez says fans can expect a closer and more error-strewn race at Monaco this year as a result of the new regulations.

The Force India driver supports Felipe Massa’s view that the drivers will have more to do than ever before because of the increase torque which causes the car to slide around under acceleration.

That might lead to more crashes, but could also mean the driver making a real difference in the car.

“It will be very interesting to see how we go around here. I think you’re going to see more driver mistakes, more driver errors and I expect the driver can make a little bit more of a difference than normally in Monaco,” he told reporters including The F1 Times.

“It can go either that way or it will be just that you see Mercedes, Red Bull – those teams at the front – and everyone more evenly matched. But I think the driver can do a bit more of a difference here and it will be a very interesting Monaco.”

The Mexican has suggested he will approach the race differently compared to previous seasons which have seen him fail to finish.

“Last year I was at McLaren dreaming of impossible positions. I was going in to a period of frustration and I was just trying to get as many positions as I possibly could.

“I saw the opportunities, so I was always trying to get the most positions, but every year and every move here is different. You know that every overtake here is risky, so it just depends on the amount of risk that I want to take on Sunday or not.”
