Lewis Hamilton has been named the world’s most marketable athlete, topping the global list compiled by SportsPro Magazine.

The Mercedes driver currently sits atop the championship table after four-consecutive wins this season so far.

The magazine noted his “maturing” nature, relationship with popstar Nicole Scherzinger, his social media following on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and his management team XIX Entertainment.

He fought off the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo (4th), Usain Bolt (6th) and Novak Djokovic (15th) to claim the top spot.

The Briton was also recently named Britain’s wealthiest athlete by the Sunday Times with an estimated fortune of £68 million.

Other F1 drivers to make the top 50 list of ‘most marketable athletes’ included Sebastian Vettel (27th), Daniil Kvyat (40th) and Simona de Silvestro (50th).

The list is based on potential over the next three years, which may explain why drivers such as Fernando Alonso failed to register and both the relatively new Kvyat and 2015 female hopefuly Silvestra did.
