Blomqvist takes pole for IMSA 6 Hours of Watkins Glen

#60: Meyer Shank Racing W/Curb-Agajanian, Acura DPi, DPi: Oliver Jarvis, Tom Blomqvist

Tom Blomqvist, driving the #60 Meyer-Shank Acura ARX-05, took pole position for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, setting a 1:29.580. 

Filipe Albuquerque was second fastest in the other Acura, #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05, 0.164 slower than Blomqvist.

Third was Sebastien Bourdais in the #01 Chip Ganassi Cadillac DPI-V.R, with the sister #02 Chip Ganassi Cadillac machine, with Earl Bamber behind the wheel, in fourth.

Fifth and sixth were Olivier Pla in the #31 Action Express Cadillac and Tristan Vautier in the #5 JDC-Miller Cadillac. The #48 Ally Cadillac, which includes NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson in its driver lineup, could only manage three laps with Kamui Kobayashi behind the wheel, setting a 2:17.096, the slowest time of the session, as Kobayashi struggled with a front brake issue.

#52 PR1 Mathiasen Oreca 07-Gibson’s Ben Keating qualified on pole for the LMP2 class. The American set a 1:33.930, just one thousandth of a second ahead of the other #11 PR1 Mathiasen car, this time with Steven Thomas at the wheel.

Third in class was Dennis Andersen in the #20 High Class Oreca 07-Gibson, obver one and half seconds off Keating.

Over in LMP3, Nico Varrone put the #40 FastMD Duqueine D08 on pole, with a 1:40.028. Second in class was Josh Sarchet in #58 MLT Motorsports Ligier JS P320, while Jon Bennett in the #54 CORE Autosport Ligier JS P320 was third in class.

#25 BMW M Team RLL’s Conor De Philippi was quickest in GTD Pro, setting a 1:44.755 to take class pole. Ross Gunn in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 was second fastest, 0.048 off De Philippi, while #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3’s Davide Rigon was third fastest in class, although will start fourth in the GTD ranks as the fastest GTD qualifier was faster.

That GTD qualifier, who thereby took class pole, was Stevan McAleer in the #32 Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3, reeling off a 1:45.077, just over a tenth faster than Rigon’s effort.

Second in GTD was Richard Heistand in the #12 VasserSullivan Lexus RC F GT3, while Robby Foley was third in the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M4 GT3.
