#01 Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais has taken pole for the Chevrolet Sportscar Classic at Detroit Belle Isle, setting a 1:18.818, a new IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship DPi qualifying record.

The Frenchman beat out the #60 Meyer Shank Acura ARX-05 of Tom Blomqvist, who set a time of 1:18.928 in the dying moments of the session. Bourdais crossed the line in time to get another lap and may have been even faster, if it wasn’t for a spin entering turn 7. Blomqvist, meanwhile, backed off after his fast lap.

With Blomqvist second fastest, third fell to Ricky Taylor in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura. Taylor, who along with teammate Filipe Albuquerque has won the last two IMSA WeatherTech races, could only manage a 1:18945, a tenth and a bit off Bourdais’s fastest lap.

Over in GTD, Kyle Kirkwood took pole in the #17 VasserSullivan Lexus RC F GT3, with a 1:29.014. Roman de Angelis, driving the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR, was second with a time exactly two tenths slower than Kirkwood, a 1:29.214, while #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3’s Madison Snow took third, with a 1:29.286.
