In the wake of reports that some teams are heating their tyres beyond the allowed limit, Pirelli has introduced a simple way to monitor them.
The Italian manufacturer has affixed a small temperature-reactive sticker to the tread which records how hot the tyres are when they leave the tyre blankets.
Pirelli prescribes a maximum temperature of 110°C (230°F), which should not be exceeded at any point before the tyre takes to the track.
The company says the FIA will monitor the temperatures, among other parameters, before the cars take to the track in an effort to clampdown on teams taking advantage of the rules.
“The FIA will ensure that this limit is respected, together with the minimum tyre pressures when leaving the pits and maximum camber levels on the track,” read a statement.
