Jenson Button has hailed his win in a chaotic Chinese GP as his ‘best victory’ yet, thanks to the tough conditions which saw drivers having to second guess the weather.
He stormed to victory after choosing to stay on slicks at the start of the race, then making the right tyre calls throughout, which led to him stopping just twice compared to his teammate’s four stops.
“For me, it is my best victory, every one you win becomes your best victory but this was was pretty in tough conditions,” Button told the BBC after the race.
“The good thing is our pace was very good today. It wasn’t just the call of weather, it was good pace. At the end we were two seconds a lap quicker than other people. We will don’t know where we are in the dry, but we will forget about it at the moment.
“It is not luck we came out on top today. We chose correctly in the conditions,” he said. “The start was the right call definitely but it was slippery and we knew how quickly the soft tyres would be working.
Jenson takes his second victory of the season, as well as his second for the McLaren team and moves ten points clear of Fernando Alonso in the drivers championship, whilst McLaren move 19 points clear of Ferrari.
