The Kiwi, driving the #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-VR, inherited the lead when the #48 Ally Cadillac of Kamui Kobayashi came in for a pitstop.
The Cadillacs moved to the front as a result of a bizarre mishap from Wayne Taylor Racing’s Will Stevens.
Stevens drove out of the pitlane in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05 after a routine stop but proceeded to completely drive around the Michelin RFID readers at the exit of the pit lane.
The Briton was handed a drivethrough penalty for the infraction, which has dropped the car to sixth in class.
Mustang Sampling’s Loic Duval sits in second place ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne and Pipo Derani, with Mike Rockenfeller down to fifth after the team’s pitstop.
Mikkel Jensen continues to lead LMP2 for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, with Giedo van der Garde second for Raicng Team Nederland.
Malthe Jakobsen has taken the lead in LMP3 in the #33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier JS P320-Nissan.
The young Dane took the class lead from Riley Motorsports’ Kay van Berlo on track, but his position was solidified when the #74 Ligier went behind the wall with radiator damage from contact with the #9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.
In GTD Pro, Corvette Racing regained control of the class after some fantastic on-track battling with Pfaff and BMW M Team RLL.
Porsche driver Matt Campbell was in the class lead after the restart following a caution for a stoppage of the #54 CORE Autosport Ligier, but came under pressure from the #3 Corvette C8.R of Nick Catsburg.
Catsburg then overtook Campbell in an overtaking move into turn 5 before pulling a gap.
Jordan Taylor is now in the car, leading ahead of the #24 BMW M4 GT3 of Marco Wittmann and Marco Mapelli’s #63 TR3 Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.
Bill Auberlen has meanwhile gained the lead in the GTD class in his 500th start in BMW machinery, moving the #96 Turner Motorsport M4 GT3 ahead of the #28 Alegra Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo driven by Maximilian Götz.
