Whilst the majority seem against the idea, Sergio Perez has come out in support of the plan to award double points at the season finale next year.
The idea, which sees the Abu Dhabi victory worth 50 points instead of the usual 25, was branded “absurd” by world champion Sebastian Vettel and a recent poll conducted by The F1 Times found that 87.3 per cent* of our readers were also against the idea.
The FIA is however proceeding with the idea and Perez, who announced he will partner Nico Hulkenberg at Force India next season, says it’s a “positive” thing.
“For some it will be right and for some it will be wrong, but I see the positive,” he told reporters.
“I think it will create a much better final race where things can completely change for everyone.
“I see it [as a] positive…I am OK with the rule.”
Another new rule he supports, and one which is more popular amongst fans, is permanent driver numbers.
“Ever since I was a kid I always wore the 11 in karting,” he added. “Actually my email has 11 in it as well. A lot of things have to do with 11 so I identified myself with that number.”
