The FIA has confirmed that New Jersey will not feature on the 2014 calendar, but Bernie Ecclestone is certain Formula 1 will visit the following year.
The much anticipated race with the New York skyline as a backdrop was supposed to debut in ’13, but was later delayed until ’14 due to financial problems.
Those problems have yet to be resolved and it seems the race may never get off the ground. Ecclestone though is sure they will and believes ’15 will be the year.
“There is great demand for a race in New Jersey and I have no doubt we’ll be racing at Port Imperial in 2015,” he said in a statement.
“New races can take many years to get started, but there is significant momentum and we are close to realising a New York City F1 race.”
Promoter Leo Hindery Jr thanked everyone for their patience and confirmed they remain committed to the project.
“I want to thank Formula One Management, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Mayors Richard Turner and Felix Roque, Roseland Property Company and the other local property owners involved for their patience while we’ve worked to get this right so that we can finally go racing in 2015.”
