Domenicali would relinquish role if required

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali says he would sacrifice his position at the Italian team should a better person become available for the job.

The 48-year-old made the comments amidst rumours that Ross Brawn could be ‘on the market’ next season following speculation that he’ll leave Mercedes at the end of the year.

Brawn has been linked with Ferrari where he enjoyed great success with Michael Schumacher before he joined Honda, and was even seen leaving a meeting with Domenicali at Ferrari’s motorhome in Brazil on Friday.

When asked by Sky Sports as to whether he would step aside if Ferrari’s bosses found someone else to the lead the team, he replied: “Of course. If I see that is the best solution I will do it even tomorrow, 100%.

“My interest is to make sure that Ferrari will win again.

“Also I have bosses on top of me that may take that decision, it will be no problem because at the end of the day what is the most important thing is that Ferrari has to become once again the standard for Formula 1.”

When pressed on the Brawn rumours, he failed to deny the claims.

“I have such respect for Ross, as a friend first of all, and as a professional. Let’s wait and see.”

Brawn was offered a position at Ferrari in 2010 but turned the offer down because it wasn’t the role of team principal, which suggests Ferrari are keen to have his input once again.
