Nico Rosberg topped the times on Friday morning in Brazil in the damp conditions, four-tenths ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton who came in second to give Mercedes a 1-2.

The German dominated the session, with the closest non-Mercedes over six-tenths back. It was Sebastian Vettel who came closest thanks to a late lap.

Mclaren’s Jenson Button was fourth, with Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber fifth and sixth respectively.

The late rain saw the track conditions worsen as the clock ticked down, which largely dictated when the cars went out.
