Sauber: ‘We know where we went wrong with the C32’

Sauber believe they now have a better understanding of their car, the C32, which has failed to impress this year unlike its predecessor in 2012 which took four podiums.

The Swiss team had high hopes for ’13 after signing Nico Hulkenberg. However things haven’t gone as planned and the team have just 19 points on the board, compared to 98 at the same point last season.

Team principal Monisha Kaltenborn is confident they now have a better understanding of where they went wrong – and that’s evidenced in their past two race weekends which have seen them make Q3 on both occasions.

“We know more or less where we went wrong, but unfortunately it is a situation where you cannot simply implement what you want,” she said of their financial struggles which meant the car wasn’t developed in the opening races.

“We know that what we have done so far has moved us in the right direction, so if we could have done this before who knows what would have happened with our season?

“We have seen that the Monza result was not a one-off. We have understood where we went wrong – mainly at the rear with the aerodynamics,” added the Indian. “The understanding of the glitches and the analytical approach to it will help us for the rest of the season.”
