Honda’s Marc Marquez will test a road-going Honda superbike at Portimao on Sunday as he returns to track action for the first time in three months.
The Spaniard was forced to skip the final two rounds of the 2021 MotoGP season after suffering a diplopia as a result of a motocross accident, an eye condition that left the six-time premier class champion with severely blurred vision.
He was thus forced to rest in order for his eyesight to return to normal ahead of the upcoming 2022 campaign, Marquez currently set to miss both pre-season tests at Sepang and the new Mandalika circuit in Indonesia respectively.
Marquez returned to riding action just a few days ago after his vision recovered sufficiently, a short test of a Honda motorcross machine at the Ponts circuit in Barcelona giving him “good sensations”, allowing him to return to track riding just under two months before the start of the 2022 MotoGP season in Qatar in March.
He posted a short tweet on Twitter on Sunday morning featuring him alongside one of Honda’s RC213-S road superbikes painted in Repsol racing colours revealing he would sample the machine at Portimao, the first time he has ridden on a track since winning the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the end of October.
The factory Honda outfit also posted a small update on the test, featuring Marquez stood in the Algarve International Circuit pit-lane alongside the conformation that he was looking to “further assess his condition ahead of the 2022 season.”
