KCMG has become the latest team to officially announce its plans to contest the upcoming Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The Hong Kong-based outfit will field a single Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD Pro category. The driver squad for the #2 Porsche consists of Patrick Pilet, Laurens Vanthoor, Dennis Olsen and Alexandre Imperatori.

The team becomes the third squad to field a Porsche GT3 car in the new-for-2022 category, following earlier announcements from Pfaff Motorsports and WeatherTech Racing.

While KCMG’s current relationship with Porsche dates back to 2020 following a switch to Nissan, it will mark the first time the team has competed at Daytona. It has previously contested each of the other major twice-around-the-clock enduros at Spa, the Nürburgring and Le Mans. It notably won the LMP2 category of the latter event in 2015.

Adam Hardy will act as the team’s engineer for the event. The highly experienced engineer, who also works with Porsche’s works effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship and has previously been with KCMG at Le Mans in 2016, will be joined by Kai Störling. Störling was the engineer behind Manthey Racing’s winning effort at last year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours.

“The 2022 Rolex 24 at Daytona is an exciting and significant moment in KCMG history as it marks the team’s first entry in the last of the big 24-hour races, having previously competed at Le Mans, Nürburgring and Spa events” said team manager Matt Howson.

“We have a fantastic driver line-up, combining youth and experience which is capable of challenging for the inaugural GTD Pro class win. We’re also pleased to welcome back Patrick, Laurens, Dennis and Alex, all of whom competed with KCMG previously.

“Continuing our excellent relationship with Porsche and the 911 GT3 R is an honour and the engineering combination of Adam Hardy and Kai Störling makes for a formidable team to support KCMG’s first programme at Daytona.”
