Red Bull to meet Raikkonen’s manager at Spa

Kimi Raikkonen might yet join Red Bull to partner the current world champion according to former assistant team manager at McLaren, Tony Jardine.

Red Bull have reportedly scheduled a last ditch meeting with Kimi Raikkonen’s manager this weekend during the Belgian Grand Prix.

Whilst his manager, Steve Robertson, recently suggested negotiations had ended with Red Bull “some time ago”, it’s believed the deal could be back on the table.

Jardine revealed to Sky Sports that credible sources have confirmed they will meet again and it’s believed Red Bull have returned with a ‘sweeter’ deal to lure the Finn to Milton Keynes.

Roberston’s comments along with those linking Raikkonen to Ferrari, may therefore have been a ploy to push Red Bull to come back with a counteroffer for the 33-year-old’s services.

In addition, Red Bull’s advisor Helmut Marko even back-tracked on a previous comment in which he confirmed a driver announcement would be made this weekend, but he has now stated that won’t be the case and it’s likely to be delayed until the Italian GP.

“We will express ourselves when the time comes, and that will definitely not be at Spa,” he told the SID agency on Tuesday.

Team owner Dietrich Mateschitz added that they’re looking at the ‘medium term’, hinting that Raikkonen is the best candidate as Daniel Ricciardo is seen as a long term answer.

“What we will do will be the best for the team, in the medium term.”
