Porsche teases LMDh, adds Cameron and Nasr to factory roster

Porsche has unveiled the first images of its new LMDh prototype, whilst also confirming that Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr have been added to the factory driver roster for the 2022 season.

Cameron and Nasr will both form part of Porsche Penske Motorsport’s programme as Porsche prepares for the rollout of its yet unnamed top prototype.

Both drivers have extensive experience in the top prototype category of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. Cameron has raced in prototypes since 2015 and is a two-time champion, most recently winning the title with Team Penske in 2019. The factory deal means the California native will reunite with the Penske operation he raced for previously.

Nasr, meanwhile, joins the Porsche factory roster after securing his second DPi title with Action Express Racing just weeks ago. The Brazilian joined the team following the end of his tenure in Formula One and has since taken seven overall race victories.

He will also join Pfaff Motorsports as the third driver for the Endurance Cup rounds in the Canadian team’s GTD Pro effort.

In addition to releasing a series of teaser images to the car, Porsche also confirmed that it has plans to ‘complete numerous test runs in 2022.’

Management duties for the programme will be in the hands of Urs Kuratle, who previously worked in Formula One for Sauber and was also involved with the 919 Hybrid LMP1 programme that won Le Mans three times in a row.

“We are working all-out with our partner Penske on the development of the new LMDh prototype and collaborate closely with the chassis manufacturer Multimatic at all times,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Porsche’s Vice President of Motorsport. “In January, we will begin intensive testing to ensure that we are optimally prepared for our 2023 competition debut.”
