The German language magazine, Focus, has reported that the inaugural South Korean GP could be postponed until 2011 after concerns the construction is behind schedule.
The track in Yeongam is set to host the 17th round of the championship on the 24th October, but amid concerns it won’t be ready, Bernie Ecclestone flew to Korea immediately after the Malaysian GP to inspect the situation.
The article said that Ecclestone would have to decide over the next few days whether or not to cancel the event and move it back to 2011. That would result in an 18 race calendar, rather than the planned 19.
The designer of the track is none other than F1 regular Hermann Tilke, who is also an advisor to the construction. He told Focus that he was worried it wouldn’t be completed on time.
“For the first time I am afraid that a track is not going to be finished on time.”
