Robert Kubica has expressed his shock and sadness at yesterday’s plane crash which killed his country’s president, Lech Kaczynski, as well as a number of other Polish politicians.
A plane carrying various government officials crashed after attempting to land in heavy fog. It was taking the officials to Russia to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre during World War II.
It’s reported that all 97 onboard died in the accident.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of this tragedy, which is unprecedented for our nation,” Kubica said. “A day of remembrance for the victims of Katyn has become one of deep mourning for the people of Poland.
“I send my sincerest condolences to the families of the victims and my thoughts are with every one of my fellow Poles, who have all been deeply affected by this tragedy.”
