Bernie Ecclestone faces going to jail if he’s found guilty of bribing German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky to undervalue Formula 1 ahead of its sale to CVC.
Whilst Ecclestone insists he’s innocent and will “defend his position in the courts,” he admits he’ll have to ‘deal’ with going to jail if it comes to it.
“I am not guilty of anything except being got at,” he told The Times. “But if I get sent to jail, I will have to deal with it.
“I don’t think I will like it very much. But you have to get on with things.”
The 82-year-old, who shows no signs of quitting or slowing down, hinted that he will continue working until the day he dies – despite a personal fortune of almost £3 billion.
“I know I am going to die, there is no getting away from it, but I am not frightened by it. I just hope that I die of a heart attack. Preferably at my desk.”
