Corvette has unveiled a GT3-based racecar that it will be offering to customer teams for the 2024 teams.

The car, called the Z06 GT3.R, is powered by a 5.5-liter, DOHC LT6 V8 with the same crankshaft architecture used in the C8.R.

The new car will be able to compete in both the GTD Pro category of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship as well as the GT3-based class that is set to replace the GTE category in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Meanwhile, the GT3 car will share the same aluminum chassis, modified production engine, and similar aerodynamic features with the Z06 road car.

“It’s an exciting time for Corvette – first with the reveal of the production Z06 and now confirming the Corvette Z06 GT3.R for customer racers,” said Mark Stielow, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition Engineering.

“The availability of the Z06 GT3.R will allow customer race teams the opportunity to campaign a Corvette that has benefited from Corvette Racing’s rich history.”

The introduction of the new car marks the first time that the General Motors company has offered a customer racing programme, something it had not done before.

With the new car, it could potentially mean Corvette will also be represented in other, GT3-based championships such as the Intercontinental GT Challenge or GT World Challenge Europe.
