Felipe Massa is hoping to put the disappointment of finishing 14th in Bahrain behind at the next race in Spain by finishing on the podium.
The Brazilian is yet to secure a top-three finish, with his best result so far coming at the season opener in Australia where he finished 4th. His performance has gradually dipped with 5th in Malaysia and then 6th in China.
However he reckons Spain could be the turning point as its a circuit he has done well at in the past.
“The Circuit de Catalunya is the track that we know best thanks to all the tests that we do there at the start of the year: it’s a complex, technical track where it’s important to have good aerodynamic downforce,” he explained.
“My best memory from Barcelona came in 2007 when I won the race: it was a great victory in front of a fantastic crowd that saw me fight with many opponents – including Fernando, who was then at McLaren.”
The 32-year-old is hoping that experience will help.
“Obviously I’m not happy with my last race in Bahrain and so I hope to be able to get back to fighting for the top places this weekend.”
He currently holds sixth in the championship, 17-points behind team-mate Fernando Alonso and 47 behind leader Sebastian Vettel.
