IMSA has named the ten finalists for the inaugural IMSA Diverse Driver Development Scholarship.
Out of 35 entrants, a total of four men and six women were selected as contenders for the scholarship, which will go toward a full season of competition in either the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge or IMSA Prototype Challenge in 2022.
According to IMSA, drivers eligible to compete for the championship needed to have a strong desire to compete in IMSA, outstanding previous race results and/or proven on-track potential in junior racing categories and the ability to build a compelling business plan for securing the remaining funding needed to compete in a full season in 2022. The winner will be announced during the Petit Le Mans Week at Road Atlanta.
The series has selected the following ten drivers:
- Sebastian Carazo, 23: Porsche Carrera Cup North America driver
- Jaden Conwright, 22: 2021 WeatherTech Sportscar Championship debutant
- Sabre Cook, 27: W Series driver
- Courtney Crone, 20: IMSA Prototype Challenge driver
- David Dalton, 23: F4 United States Championship driver
- Christina Lam, 33: driving coach, Hi-Speed Motorsports team founder
- Matteo Llarena, 17: IMSA LMP3 pole sitter, Lamborghini GT3 junior driver
- Kyle Loh, 22: Current Formula Pro USA Western Championships points leader
- Sarah Montgomery, 27: World Racing League race winner
- Nikko Reger, 23: 2018 Mazda MX-5 Cup champion
“The response we received after announcing the IMSA Diverse Driver Development Scholarship in August was fantastic,” said IMSA President John Doonan. “There were so many talented applicants, and it was extraordinarily difficult to select our 10 finalists. It will be even more difficult to choose one recipient, as all of our finalists have what it takes to succeed long term in IMSA.”
