Felipe Nasr has gone quickest in the opening practice session for the Acura Grand Prix at Long Beach, which was marked by several red flags and stoppages.

The Brazilian driver posted the fastest time in the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-VR by setting a 01:13:498.

That was a comfortable 0.835s clear of the #01 Chip Ganassi Cadillac driven by Renger van der Zande, with Olivier Pla third fastest for Meyer Shank Racing.

Tristan Vautier was fourth in the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac, with Filipe Albuquerque fifth in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05.

Multiple red flags

The 60-minute session was halted a total of three times due to red flags.

Notably, the #55 Mazda RT24-P came to a halt out on track without setting a lap with Oliver Jarvis behind the wheel.

Another stoppage was caused by the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which occurred when Alex Riberas spun on track.

The session was brought to an early halt by the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura of Olivier Pla, who had an incident in the latter stages of the session.

Corvette, Porsche top GT classes

Corvette Racing went fastest in the GTLM session, with Nick Tandy leading a one-two for the American manufacturer.

Tandy posted a 01:19:734 aboard the #4 Corvette C8.R, with team-mate Antonio Garcia just 0.077s behind in the sister car.

Mathieu Jaminet, who partners Cooper MacNeil aboard the #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19 this weekend, was third fastest. His fastest time was 0.254s slower than Tandy’s.

Patrick Long topped the standings in GTD in the #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R with a time of 01:20:544s

Long outpaced Bryan Sellers’ #1 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo by 0.172s, with the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3 of Bill Auberlen third.

The second free practice session will take place at 1:20 p.m. PT.
