Pastor Maldonado has given a damning verdict of the Williams FW35 after he failed to progress through to the second qualifying session.
The Venezuelan believes the team’s performance is more similar to that of 2011 when they scored just five points during the entire season and claims the car is ‘undriveable’.
“I think we’re back to the condition of two years ago in the team,” he is quoted as saying after Q1.
“We need to work very hard to solve the problems,” he added. “The car is undriveable at the moment and we need to work. That’s it.”
He didn’t blame the conditions for their poor form, believing the car was even slow in the dry conditions.
“For whatever reason, we didn’t adapt our car to this track, whatever the conditions,” he explained. “In the wet we were slow, in the dry as well.”
He is however a little more confident for Sunday’s race: “The pace for tomorrow seems to be much better but qualifying pace is really bad.”
