Mark Webber came out on top on the first day of the final pre-season test for Red Bull to post a 1:22.693.

He made the most of a drying circuit to beat Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes. The Briton was over 1.6 seconds slower partly down to the conditions and his tyre choice.

Third was Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne. He led Valtteri Bottas in the Williams and Sergio Perez in the McLaren.

Esteban Gutierrez caused one of three red flags when he ended up against the barrier at turn three. The light impact caused little damage to his Sauber C32.

Romain Grosjean, slowest of the day thanks to a hydraulic issue, also went off track to bring out the red flag, as did Felipe Massa.

Max Chilton was back behind the wheel for a ninth day because of Luiz Razia’s contractual issues. Chilton is expected to be in the Marussia on Friday too.
