Sergio Pérez says he’s looking forward to working with and learning from his team-mate Jenson Button – who becomes the most experienced driver on the 2013 grid with the retirement of Michael Schumacher.

Whilst the Mexican driver is confident he will be competitive at the very first race in Australia on March 18th, he isn’t making any predictions as to when he’ll beat Button or secure his first win.

“I think it will be a bit of time,” he said in response to how long he’ll need to settle in. “With six days [testing] before the races you’ve got to learn and become familiar with the team but I expect myself to be competitive in Melbourne,” he told The F1 Times.

“I think it’s very difficult for me to tell you at which race I will beat Jenson or at which race I will get my first win. I have to get myself as ready as possible for the first race and score as many points as possible from then onwards,” he added.

The 22-year-old, who is in just his third season, says he has much to learn from Button and expects the pair will have a great working relationship.

“I have got a lot to learn from him, his experience, his knowledge, will all be useful for me.

“I am so much looking forward to working with a champion, a great guy. The whole team has so much respect for him. I am looking forward to building up my relationship with him, to help the team become the best, have the best car possible.

“I’m looking forward, I think we’ll have a good relationship.”
