Hour 8 at Le Mans: Alpine spin promotes Glickenhaus to third
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Toyota Gazoo Racing continues to lead the 24 Hours of Le Mans in one-two formation while a spin for Matthieu Vaxiviere has promoted Glickenhaus to third place.

Vaxiviere lost control of the #36 Alpine A480-Gibson under braking into the first chicane, narrowly avoided the inside wall and beached the car in the gravel.

The Alpine was eventually freed from the gravel, but it allowed the #708 Glickenhaus 007 LMH of Pipo Derani into third place.

Derani trails the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid, which still leads in the hands of Jose Maria Lopez, and the #8 Toyota in the hands of Kazuki Nakjima.

The race is under safety car on the hourmark, caused by a crash at the Dunlop Chicane for Rui Andrade in the #25 G-Drive Aurus 01-Gibson.

Team WRT leads LMP2 one-two, with the #31 ORECA 07-Gibson of Ferdinand Habsburg leading the #41 sister car of Robert Kubica, with the two cars separated in the overall standings by the Alpine, now driven by Nicolas Lapierre.

Filipe Albuquerque holds third in the only competitive car remaining for United Autosports, ahead of Panis Racing’s Will Stevens and JOTA’s Sean Gelael.

In GTE Pro, AF Corse has regained the lead from Corvette Racing, with the #51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of James Calado leading the #63 Corvette C8.R of Antonio Garcia.

Miguel Molina sits in third in the #52 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo, with Gianmaria Bruni fourth in the best of the Porsches.

In GTE Am, two major contenders in class have been taken out shortly after each other. First, Egidio Perfetti crashed the #56 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR-19 at the first chicane, followed by an off for the #47 Cetilar Racing Ferrari of Roberto Lacorte at Tertre Rouge. Both cars were out on the spot.

The class is being led by the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo in the hands of Alessio Rovera, with the #80 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Callum Ilott second and Felipe Fraga third for TF Sport.

Fraga has recovered to third after suffering a reported double puncture on the site of Perfetti’s crash, which also forced the team to replace the diffuser.
