A meeting of the Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA) is scheduled to take place later on Friday at 4:30pm after second practice to discuss the regulations for 2011.
On the expected agenda is the possible return of in-race refuelling, the return of KERS and larger rear tyres.
Double diffusers have already been banned by the FIA for the 2011 season, resulting in a loss of rear downforce – which the teams will no doubt find elsewhere.
They also want to see the return of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) next season. After a failed debut in 2009, with only Ferrari and McLaren getting to grips with the unit.
It was dropped by agreement in 2010, although the regulations still stipulate it can be used.
The teams will look into whether a standard system would work better, whether to increase the power output or the time drivers can use the system for on a single lap, which stood at just over six seconds last year.
The FIA also want to introduce new tyre widths at the rear. An increase from 13 inches to 18, giving the cars better rear grip and traction. The regulations will lean toward better mechanical grip, rather than aerodynamical grip, which is the main reason cars cannot pass one another.
