Pedro de la Rosa believes Fernando Alonso deserves the title more than his nearest challenger, and now favourite to succeed, Sebastian Vettel.

The Red Bull driver sits just four points behind Alonso with five races remaining, including Sunday’s Korean Grand Prix in which he lines up second on the grid behind his team-mate, whilst the Spaniard is fourth.

Whilst the RB8 may be far superior when compared to the F2012, De la Rosa still believes Alonso will take his third title.

“I think Fernando will win the title, yes, I still believe, why not?,” he told AS.

“He’s doing a great job in the championship and there are still five races. He still leads and I still think that this title will be his. I believe that justice would be served if he were to win it.”

When asked if he deserved it more than Vettel, De la Rosa replied: “Yes, he deserves it more.

“Fernando has not had the best car this season,” he added. “I think this year he certainly deserves it because he has always gotten the maximum out of what he has. The two dropouts were not his fault, or his team, Ferrari is the slowest of the three cars clearly.”
