Button and Hamilton disagree on Malaysia pace

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton have different opinions on their expected competitiveness at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia this weekend.

Whilst Button believes his MP4-25 won’t suit the track as much as other teams, Hamilton believes it will.

“I think we travel to Sepang mindful that the characteristics of the circuit probably won’t suit our car as well as it will suit some of the others,” declared Button. “But, I’m confident that once again, we’ll be fighting at or near the front.”

Hamilton had a difficult time at the Malaysian circuit in 2009. The poor performance of his car, which lacked downforce, and the horrendous weather caused problems for the McLaren team.

The 25-year-old though, reckons 2010 will be a different story. He is expecting to perform well on the high-speed track.

“Sepang has some of the best high-speed corners on the entire calendar. And, this year, I think we’ve got a car that will be far better suited to the circuit than we did last year, so I’m heading to Malaysia optimistic of a good result,” added Hamilton.

McLaren recorded the fastest straight-line speed at both Bahrain and Australia thanks to their F-duct, something which will benefit them on Malaysia’s long back straight, as well as the long start/finish straight.
