Indian F1 driver, Karun Chandhok, gave new team, Hispania Racing, their first ever grand-prix finish on Sunday when he bought his F110 over the line in 14th position.

Although, with retirements, 14th position was last and Chandhok was 5 laps behind the race leader, the 26-year old has a right to be pleased with the result after scoring the finish in only his second race weekend in the top flight.

“A great thank to the team. To finish was very difficult today, and all the more satisfying because of that. I dedicate this race result to all the mechanics and engineers who worked so hard since Bahrain, without any pre-season testing. This is a fantastic day for the team and a great step forward,” Chandhok told Hispania’s official site.

After a terrible race weekend in Bahrain which saw Chandhok only manage one lap on race-day after spinning off the track, to finish a full race distance, almost, is a huge achievement for the team, and the driver.

“I am proud to have ended our first race. At the start, I could see a big accident developing ahead of me and tried to keep to the inside to avoid trouble,” Karun explains.

“I was able to avoid getting caught up in the aftermath and was in 16th position.”

Looking ahead to the up-coming races, Karun is aware that the team need to continue to work hard in order to get more finishes in the bag, “We achieved the best result we could do today. We have to keep pushing and working and we will manage to finish even higher.”

Chandhok’s team-mate, Bruno Senna, failed to finish the race after suffering a hydraulic failure early on.
