Sebastian Vettel has received a €10,000 fine for practising a race start in the pitlane, something which has been banned this weekend.
The Red Bull driver was summoned to the stewards who found he had breached Article 30.13 of the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations.
“At no time may a car be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person. This will apply whether any such car is being driven on the track, the pit entry or the pitlane,” reads the regulation.
The penalty could have been worse had the team not reported the incident to the FIA themselves.
“In mitigation of the penalty is the fact that the team and driver immediately realised their error and reported it to the race director,” said an FIA statement.
“The team also reported that the ‘lollypop man’ was performing this role for the first time.”
