Lotus has hinted that it is unlikely to run its new double-DRS at the Belgian Grand Prix, after rain hampered its evaluation efforts.
The outfit only managed a handful of laps on Friday thanks to several downpours during both first and second practice, which has led the team to abandon the system for FP3 on Saturday.
“Today’s rain prevented us from seeing how the ‘device’ would perform in the expected race conditions,” said technical director James Allison.
“With discretion being the better part of valour we will conduct P3 tomorrow with a conventional aero package rather than attempting to squeeze Friday’s intended evaluation into the precious final practice session.”
The ‘device’, as Lotus call it, may return for qualifying and the race, though it looks unlikely.
