Hans-Joachim Stuck, president of the German motor sport association DMSB, has warned Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Helmut Marko after the pair made accusations against the FIA.
Marko is reported to have claimed that the stewards intentionally brought out the safety car to close up the field after Vettel had opened up a 20-second lead to Romain Grosjean in second, in order to ‘improve the show’.
German media also reports Vettel making similar comments.
Stuck however has warned Vettel to avoid such accusations which he says can be construed as “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
“Sebastian Vettel should learn to be a good loser,” he told German Eurosport. “It was clear there was debris on the circuit, representing a danger of puncture to the other cars. For that reason, the safety car was justified.”
Stuck also rubbished claims that the safety car period was the reason Vettel’s RB8 failed.
“I don’t think driving slowly behind a pace car can be the cause of a failure, otherwise all the other cars would fail also,” he added. “If the Red Bull car overheats because of the safety car then it is designed wrong.”
