Ferrari technical director Pat Fry believes the characteristics of the tight and twisty Monaco Grand Prix circuit are not only hiding the cars flaws, but favouring its strengths.
Fry expects Ferrari to be in the hunt for a front-row start, but also admitted other teams are looking strong.
“Here is a little bit of a different track. It’s less about efficiency and more about CL [downforce]. Maybe things move in our favour a little bit.
“But it’s hard to guess. Lotus are going to be very strong. And McLaren, ourselves… there are quite a few strong teams out there.”
One area Fry says the team needs to improve, though it’s somewhat masked in Monaco, is traction out of medium speed corners.
“Our traction is not as good as we would like but we’re not as bad as we have been relative to other tracks,” added Fry.
“Here, it’s more your classic point-and-squirt corners. There are very few where you are trying to accelerate out with a lot of lateral [load] on the car. We are working on improving the car in that area.”
