Sebastian Vettel refused to blame his car for his lowly qualifying position for the Chinese Grand Prix, his worst since the 2009 Brazilian GP.
Vettel admitted he wasn’t happy after failing to make it through to the top ten shoot-out and will start 11th.
“Obviously I’m not happy but as I said I think I was pretty happy with the laps I had in Q2 but they weren’t quick enough,” he said.
“We have to start the race from P11 and see what we can do tomorrow. It surely makes it a bit harder but not impossible to do a good race.”
The German didn’t want to blame his car for the poor performance after he chose a completely different specification of exhaust to team-mate Mark Webber, who starts 6th.
“It’s difficult to say [whether it was the cause]. Yesterday I was happy with the car that’s why we decided to stick with the current settings.
“I don’t want to blame it on the car. Three times I did exactly the same lap and three times it wasn’t quick enough to make it into Q3.”
